The melody line of BTL is the power of building a strong CORE, authoring an authentic OPUS, and PoPing it out with your playbook of productive action. The few who commit to these disciplines become leaders laced with belief. They believe in who they are, where they’re headed, and why it’s worth the struggle of PA. These leaders are believers.
And, when someone stops believing – somebody will soon be leaving. Do not miss this. When you stop believing in someone on your team, you owe it to yourself, them, and your teammates, to tell them the unvarnished truth in love. Remember Blaise Pascal and the four words he considers the greatest gift – “I believe in you.” Don’t forget to give the gift of disbelief early and often too. Nothing comes out worse from a leader then disbelief that has been sitting in her craw a bit too long. It may be truth, but it’s harsh. This kinda truth is almost always greeted with the Heisman.
When someone stops believing, someone will soon be leaving. This is a truth I’ve observed in this work of BTL. It doesn’t have to be true for you and your system. Give the gift of disbelief early and often and your strong teammates will respond. Instead of leaving, they will start to believe you care enough to make them do what they can. They will catch the caring and compassion in your tough but true love. Leaders are believers. Believe enough to give Pascal’s gift. Believe enough to give Sam Phillips derivative too. Remember, he was the Sun Records Executive that gave Johnny Cash the gift of disbelief and made him walk the line, so to speak.
Leaders are believers. How ’bout you?
