My way IS the HIGHway…

…to a HIGH performance culture.

This is a melody line in our playbooks and on this blog.  Of course, what’s different is we typically hear this phrase as “MY way OR the highway.”

A couple nuances became clearer to me in practice last week.   Per Simon Sinek, great leaders who inspire action start with WHY.  If you hire people who want a job, they will labor for your money — but if you hire people who believe what you believe, they will strive WITH you, with blood, sweat and tears, from a worldview and core aligned with yours.   If you find clients who need what you have, they will transact with you — but if you find clients who believe what you believe, they will transform and grow with you, from a worldview and core aligned with yours.

Per Goethe, dream no small dreams for they have no power to move the hearts of men.   Calling is about something bigger than the leader, bigger than the team, bigger than its clients.   The higher your HIGHway — and the more you and your team BELIEVE in your HIGHway – the more inspiring and convincing and sustainable your culture will become.

“MY way OR the highway” leaders are self-centered, others-controlling — they call others to themSELVES.   BUILT TO LEAD leaders and teams are core-centered, self-controlling.   They call others to their HIGHway.   Leaders are believers — in their HIGHway.  And leaders are connectors — to their HIGHway.

Our practice pages in the playbooks are like orange barrels, because BUILT TO LEAD leaders & teams are always under construction, constantly building, and continuously making HIGHway improvements.

Together becoming ONE, distinct AND deeply connected, on their Builders’ Journey — aka their HIGHway.
