Love feels like…

Toby Mac’s recent release titled Love feels like, is a great reminder to the root of our deepest emotion. Love, the endlessly energizing agape, feels like you’ve gone all the way to empty and somehow feel full. “Poured out, used up, still givin'” – thanks Toby.

Last night a few friends humbled themselves and in the same breath gave courage to another beside them. One came my way and it had been fourteen years in the making. I had no idea. Something I had done filled up another and he wanted me to receive the courage that years ago, unbeknownst to me, had inspired him. He gave this courage to me without strings – he simply gave my heart courage and filled me up. Love feels like that, I believe. It felt great to receive such a gift. Thank you.

The greatest gift, however, belongs with the giver. Whenever we humble ourselves and love up another without hopes of some kind reciprocity, we, the giver, receive more than we give. This is what Toby describes in the song. Check it out. And, today, give, give, give until it feels like there’s nothing left. Maybe, just maybe, you’ll find yourself walking out feeling full. Thanks, friend, for the fill up last night. I’ll try to be a conduit not a cul de sac.

God, help me believe you at your word and give courage to another. God, help me give compassion. My courage muscle is so much stronger and more comfortable to use than that tender, compassionate one. God, help me build both. Tough and tender. God, help me be a conduit not a cul de sac. God, help me…
