Unite us…

One hundred years ago, the Ku Klux Klan was reborn. This time the hatred was focused toward Catholics, Jews, and people of Color. One hundred years ago, women had just been given the right to vote. One hundred years ago a Negro man created a fervor by attempting to run for office. One hundred years ago our country was deeply divided and far from progressing, yet here we are today. It is always a struggle to unite us instead of untie us. Are you a uniter or someone who unties from people unlike you?
W.E.B. Du Bois was a voice of reason back in the day. “The absolute equality of races – physical, political and social – is the founding stone of world peace and human advancement. No one denies great differences of gift, capacity, and attainment among individuals of all races, but the voice of science, religion and practical politics is one in denying the God – appointed existence of superior races, or of races naturally and inevitably and eternally inferior.” Du Bois was a man on a mission, a mission to move us forward.
We do not make progress aiming at something in our rear view mirror. We do not aim at restoring people groups to some previous historical strength. We find strength and greatness when we evolve, enlighten, and enable others to do likewise. Aim here, leader. Push yourself and your team to make progress. Be a bit more like Du Bois and push us forward, not back. Do not stay in the status quo and seek equilibrium. Be the change. Model the way, the way forward that is. What, friend, might you accomplish if you made it your mission? Is your strong core and authentic opus serving as compass and map for your mission? Are you and your team moving from a lone toward all one – One “L” of a difference? Are you a uniter or someone who unties from people unlike you? Unite us, leader. Your job is to unite all of us. Are you doing your job?
Evolve. Enlighten. Enable. Live hard. Love harder (Thanks, Teeks)…

  1. I have told many of my acquaintances that are convinced that the times in which we currently live are bringing us to end. I am quick to remind them that there is nothing new under the sun and the struggles that we have today have always existed. When we find ourselves in such times, it is the people of character and principle that rise to the top. I have faith that those people are slowly revealing themselves and becoming a true beacon of light that stands in stark contrast to the bickering and hatred that seems to hold court today. All I can do is to live my life in the way in which my Savior has revealed how best to live and lead.
