A young client who is on the way to a life of opus, asked me if my path had taken any dramatic turns since clarity arrived (twenty one years ago) and deciding BTL was my life’s path. My mind slipped quickly to a Joseph Campbell truth…
“If you can see your whole life’s path laid out then it’s not your life’s path.”
I rewrote the playbooks fourteen times before settling on the current version. Our purpose has been rinsed ad infinitum. The band began as Miss and my dream and now has another eleven players dreaming together. The aim started out serving big companies. Small giants today. All day practices were the norm, oftentimes longer. Today most are under 90 minutes and some as short as 20. The initial aim was transforming most. Today the focus is on the few. Never planned to pour into apprentices. Today I pour into two. Someday soon, God will send me another. I can feel it.
Opus puts you on your life’s path. You can see the next turn, maybe two. There are always surprises, obstacles, and opportunities just out of sight. Back in 2014, Durp brought a wrestling coach to his BTL team practice. I wanted nothing to do with sports teams at the time. Who knew? Certainly not me.
Listen for the call. Pay attention to your energy. You are not meant to slowly wobble away. Instead burn out bright. Your life’s path is for you to figure out. God designed each of us this way. We are meant to listen to Him and listen to our deep selves. We are not designed to go it a lone, remember. Opus is the way and it’s not linear and up and to the right. You see, friend, I believe we are the only animal given the gift of finding our way. A calling and a curse. We’re capable of a higher plane, which means a lower one exists. Don’t get ahead of yourself, get on your trail. The hardest part is always getting started. Turns are coming. Lots of ‘em. Nothing dramatic, unless you make ‘em so. Just keep tracking. Opus is simple, not easy. You’ll see.
Live hard. Love harder (trust the BTL framework and do the work)…
