Life is short…

Life is full of both pattern and mess, structure and chaos, understanding and mystery. Life is hard to comprehend without the combination of head and heart. The study of humankind, for me, feels like it will never end. I am so fascinated by what makes us tick.

I love artists attempt to tell us our story. U2 is my favorite and John Mellencamp my longest listen. Here’s a Mellencamp song that has stuck with me. It’s titled The Longest Days. Check it out and see where it takes you…

“Seems like, ‘once upon a time ago’ I was where I was supposed to be.  My vision was true and my heart was too.

There was no end to what I could DREAM…

I walked like a hero into the setting sun, everyone called out my name.  Death to me was just a mystery, I was too busy raising a Cain.

But nothing last forever AND the best efforts don’t always pay.  Sometimes you get sick and you don’t get better.  That’s when life is short even in it’s longest days.

So you pretend not to notice that everything has changed…The way that you look and the FRIENDS that you once had.  So you keep on acting the same.

Deep down in your soul.  You know you, you got NO FLAME.

And who knows then which way to go.  Life is short even in its longest days.

All I got here… is a REARVIEW mirror.  Reflections of… where I’ve been.

So you tell yourself…I’ll be back up on top someday.  But you know there’s nothing waiting up there for you anyway.

But nothing last forever AND the best efforts don’t always pay.  Sometimes you get sick and you don’t get better.  That’s when life is short even in its longest days.”

What did you hear?

Can you relate to the pattern, pain, and purpose?

Does your strong CORE provide you with a sense of meaning and purpose that transcend wrinkles, fickle friends, and floundering portfolios? Are you embracing the poison and wine relationships that you are so grateful to hold loosely?

Deep down in your soul have you got A FLAME?

Tell me more, my friend, tell me more.

Live hard. Love harder…
