We all wear masks. Most of us aren’t hiding anything criminal, we’re just living a fear based existence and using masks as a way of making do.
A few, however, are hiding criminal activity. A few are closet alcoholics. A few are addicted to pain meds. A few are having affairs. A few are stealing from the very source of their employment. A few are committing fraud. A few are like rogue cancer cells trying to kill the very system they’ve taken up residence.
The more I study, learn, and apply, the more convinced I am that as leaders we’ve got to assume less. There are more than a few folks in your system wrecking havoc. Most of them look better than they are. Most of them wear masks. Friedman was right, all systems have saboteurs. You assuming you’re the exception? Think again. Inspect what you expect. Damn.
Live hard. Love harder…
