Forgotten…

Working with college age athletes has been eye opening, at least for me. Here’s my biggest learning. Live your life with authentic abandon. Why?

Nobody will remember you.

The Matrix is one of my favorite movies. Made in 1999 it predates all the athletes we work with. Next to none of them have even heard of the film when I bring it up in BTL team practice. You think you’re more memorable than The Matrix? Think again. You, friend, will soon be gone and just about as quickly, you too will be forgotten. Live your life. Go for it. Stop playing it safe. WTF is playing it safe even for? Play it wild. Play it real. Play you to the best of your abilities.

I have many regrets. Too many to begin to list. I’ve messed up more than I’ve made right. I will go to my grave wishing I had been different, you know. You will too. We’re human. We hurt. We hurt those we love. We wound. We have deep wounds within. God knows all. God loves us in spite of our flaws and our seemingly inability to learn from our mistakes. Give some grace. Forgive. Start with yourself. God, help me realize you know the hairs on my head. You know me. You will never leave me nor forsake my sorriness. God, help me walk with a limp – not live a lie. God, help me look up instead of looking down. God, help me put my trust in you. God, help me.

Live hard. Love harder…
