Just watched a video sent to the BTL band by one of our newest members, Michelle. She was the backup catcher on America’s first Olympic Gold winning softball team back in 1996. She played with and learned from Lisa Fernandez, the best pitcher maybe ever. Lisa was short and lacked the physical attributes many coaches believed were required to be a world class pitcher. She was told to try another position, another game. Her mom coached her up. Mom told her you’ll never be great if you let others set your limits. Damn.
After Team USA won their second gold, a new coach came on the scene. He made them better. Had them go hang with Navy SEAL’s for a bit and learn how to suffer. As they suffered together and the whining began (as it usually does when you’re outside the comfort zone ), the SEAL instructors shared two words that seared them.
So what.
Mantra’s matter, friend. Whatever you’re facing as we head into 2024, try embracing a mantra of “so what.” We all struggle. All of us walk with some kinda limp. We all have demons to destroy. If you want 2024 to be a year of greatness, stop the excuses, stop settling, stop letting others set limits. Stop “protecting” yourself with your self limiting beliefs. Build your belief system and behave accordingly. A strong CORE, there is no substitute.
Michelle is chasing excellence. She’s finding her voice. She is mastering the BTL framework. She has a lot of opus ahead of her. It will not be handed to her. Nothing worth possessing will be handed to you either. So what.
Live hard. Love harder…
