Pace…

Today’s BTL band practice was freakin’ magic. We practiced for 90 minutes. Went mostly nowhere and everywhere at the same time. Doscher asked me, toward the end of our time, what hits me the most about our time together. My response was ccd (at least I thought so).

The power of pace.

The world wants us to speed up. Wants hacks. Shortcuts. Metrics. Seminars with outcomes. Excitement. Shiny new objects. More. More. And even more.

Team chemistry requires the leaders presence to know when to demand more and when to sniff the air, smell fear, anxiety, doubt, and slow down to root it out. Pace becomes power when the leaders presence is non-anxious and contagious.

(Brief reminder from Day 177 in BBTL)…

It’s not your position; it’s your presence. It’s not your power; it’s your presence. It’s not your perfection; it’s your presence. It’s not your process; it’s your presence. It’s not your professionalism; it’s your presence. It’s not your people; it’s your presence. It’s not your problem solving; it’s your presence. Your presence matters more. Thank you, Jesus, for modeling the way, embracing pain and suffering, and embodying truth in Love. I sense your presence even now.

It’s not you, leader; It’s your non-anxious presence. Does your pace change as you sniff the air? Do you have the capacity and compassion to slow down? Chemistry comes from the leaders pace. The best have many gears and use ‘em all. You?

Live hard. Love harder…
