Yesterday I led at OSU. Mostly I allowed others to grab the reins. Why? They’ve earned it. You, leader, are not remembered for the teams you’ve led. You’ll be remembered for the teams you taught to lead themselves. You’ll be remembered for the leaders you taught to lead their teams. We mostly remember the ones who made us better; bitter, not so much.
Remember, we mostly listen to our own ideas. Your job, leader, is to build a team that thinks and acts long after you’re gone. We build leaders at BTL. We build leaders who build leaders. Yesterday, I watched Mirann becoming BTL. Connor seared my sorriness as did Jakey and TD. Travis is blowing my mind with his centeredness. Feldman & Vinny don’t feel like a freshmen. You see their leaders – Grappy, The Wizard, and Nick are building leaders. They’ve moved from belief to believer. So good. So rare. What, leader, is the legacy you’re building today?
