Reps remove doubt…

Yesterday, during our OSU HC practice, I reminded a team of leaders of the power in their pen. They do not write as much as I want them to. Of course, it doesn’t matter what I want for them. They must find the will within, as they know so very well. I shared with them some writing from another Builder and his journal. It was from 2014 when he was a client. His journal, his writing is why he’s now living his dream. Freakin’ magic.

Here’s the writing from another Builder who was with me yesterday. Her name is Rachel. She’s one of my two apprentices. She writes everyday, as do I. Here’s her writing to me, unedited, from yesterday. Enjoy…

Day 51:
Reps remove doubt. True. AND…high level reps remove the most doubt. I spent time with a team today, specifically with their captains, and they were trying to figure out how to help a player who lacks consistency in his play, and as a byproduct of the lack of consistency, struggles with his confidence. Their first instinct was to build him up. Find ways to let him know how good he is. Not a bad idea, except that it only works if it’s also paired with the truth that this player needs to get better. He’s taking reps in practice, he simply needs to take better reps. Their productive action was to give him honest feedback about how he could get better and THEN catch him doing it right. Better reps.

Help your teammates see where their reps are sucking, or the bar needs to be raised. Shine a light on it and expose it rather than letting it stay in the dark and only shining light on the wins. When it stays in the dark it festers, grows, and eats at confidence. Expose it and take better reps…that’s the way to eliminate it and authentically grow your confidence. Competence precedes authentic confidence.

Good writing, Rachel…
