Mothers…

Last night, Miss and I sat in the bar at Third & Hollywood for dinner. A grandma and her daughter sat next to us. They were cashing out as we were just settling in. I heard them tell our server they were skipping dessert. I leaned over to the grandma and asked her if she liked pecan pie. A pure Duchenne smile creased her deeply lined face. I told her I would love to buy the two of them the pecan pie sundae to split. They accepted.

A conversation started. Her late husband was a dentist, she a nurse (my dad was a doctor and mom a nurse). They met at a hospital. Same as my parents. Turned out they grew up on the same street as Missi’s sister Sue. As they enjoyed the sundae, we continued to talk and laugh about how much we held in common (we all do, you know). As they got up to leave, Mrs. Schindler thanked us again and again. The pleasure was ours really. Jesus, no surprise, is right.

It is more blessed to give than to receive (Acts 20:35).

Happy Mother’s Day to all you mothers out there. My grandmothers gave so much. My mom is still giving more than she takes. Miss gave our four and continues to give with little recognition of the gifts. Do not tire of giving, Moms. Look up for your reminder of the greatest gifts in life. Look around and keep pouring. Look down and lift up. Your blessings are there. God, help us all give more. Thanks for the blessings, last night. God bless all Mom’s and their giving hearts.

Live hard. Love harder…
