Pause…

Today, during an early am practice with a team of leaders, we talked about why we don’t pause more in our work. The norm, at least around here, is pushing fast and furious. If work is good. More work must be better. False.

Pausing is part of your process, if your aim is excellence. Not a bad time to recall a little Abe Lincoln wisdom from back in the day. When asked how he would attack a tree when given a saw and six hours time to bring it down, he answered differently than his peers.

Abe said he would spend the first two hours sharpening the saw. Where, friend, do you need to insert a pause to sharpen you and your team? Slow down. Reflect. Damn.

Live hard. Love harder…

  1. My AND is a challenge to my BTL clients and friends wanting a significant life is “ which to schedule first? Your urgent stuff or your important and non-urgent stuff?”

This is why BUILT TO LEAD clients make BTL the first thing they schedule not the last thing they try to squeeze in.

It’s another habit of the few.
