Starting BTL team practice with three new OSU (Ohio State University) teams – Mens golf, Womens LAX, and Mens volleyball. I have the curse of knowledge. Having to go back to the beginning and remember what it was like when I didn’t know what I take for granted now. Simple, not easy.
Yesterday, during practice with a new team, we did version 1.0 of our worldviews – one’s basic set of beliefs through which you make sense of the world. It was telling. One teammate shared the belief you should surround yourself with people that make you feel good. I shared my belief. I believe, if you’re after excellence, you surround yourself with people that make you good. Ralph Waldo Emerson was right – “Our chief want in life is someone who shall make us do what we can.”
Be good. Do good. Feelings will come and go.
A great life, I believe is one earmarked by doing hard things well. This takes time and a few truth tellers. Your feelings will get hurt when others love you enough to give you hard truth you can use. I could go on. I’ll stop. What, friend, do you believe? Do you value feelings over facts? Most do. Time for a hard rinse? Never stop the work within. God, help me keep working on behaving more in alignment with my beliefs. God, help me. Good.
Live hard. Love harder…
