Engagement with your team…

Here’s some learning from an old dude still learning new tricks. Want more engagement with your team? 

Stop trying so damn hard. Push the tension to it’s proper owner. Your problem is you’re doing too much of the heavy lifting and letting the strong men/women around you do too little. Flip the fu&^ing script. Give ’em the reins and know where you want them to go. When they get off track a bit (and they will) be prepared to gently guide them back to the path. Make sure it’s subtle and done more with questions than commands. 

You see, friend, the greatest leaders in the history of time have done little instructing, they mostly remind. It’s much harder to lead this way at first. Gut it out. It will get easier. Trust me, I’m on Medicare, don’t have a hidden agenda, and my advice is simple. Simple, not easy. Damn.
