One of the most dangerous hooks of the online world is this idea we can create an online persona and be whomever we wish. Of course, this is only in appearance. Here is the irony.
The more time we invest in our online persona, the less sure we become of who we truly are.
Talk about an unintended consequence! Turns out when we attempt to fool others with false identities, we become more foolish ourselves. You are not who others think you are. You are who you are, in fact, when no one sees. It matters a great deal whether you focus on reputation or character. Slow down. Reflect. Write some real “I am statements.” Maybe it’s time for a hard rinse within, friend.
Live hard. Love ❤️ harder…

Great post and truth. The irony I have found, in my own experience here as someone who has grown up with this technology and digital presence, is that the more you share in who you truly are online the easier and less conflicting it becomes. Perhaps the most ironic is that the best performing digital work is created with the most authenticity to self. Depression from social media mostly stems from comparison. Comparing to what others show. And also trying to live up to the perfect world we so carefully curate ourselves in. We can’t live up to it in the real world. Children and young adults now live in a plane of two worlds. One digital. One real/physical. And the funny thing is many are just curating physical moments to showcase in their digital world. It’s a cycle of no end. We spend hours and hours on the devices daily. And to your point leads to a lesser understanding of who we are because we are so busy trying to be something we naturally aren’t. The cycle churns on. The algorithms win.
All this is to say. I believe there is incredible power through social media when utilized properly. If one can truly showcase who they are and use it as a place of joy to share and ideally help others it can be an amazing tool and even freeing one. As we show our vulnerability others are inspired to do the same. We are far more alike than we are different.
I love this post. Thanks for writing. As always… The work comes back to building our CORE. We are a constant WIP. If we know who we are we can share in just that and take the punches from the world like they are nothing. For our CORE is strong! Keep going!
Dang, thanks for sharing, Jeg. Really great perspective and additional thoughts.
Lil Jeggie got it going, huh…
