Wednesday is my new favorite opus day. Nine practices fill the slate from 6am -5pm every damn, blessed week. The schedule is full. The heart fuller.
This past Wednesday was exceptional. Why?
Clarity came.
Remember, you can be too concise and too direct. You cannot be too clear. Leaders obsession is always around getting more clarity. Every team we practiced with got clearer. One gained clarity around calling bullshit. They had a “shit” practice on Tuesday. Nobody said anything in the moment. A stud leader said something in BTL team practice and we were off and running. He called himself out for not saying anything. A van fight started (Navy SEAL tradition, look it up if curious) and we fought to improve performance, not prove a point. We got clearer on standards. Damn.
Another team got clarity around their controllables. They are NOT training (at least some of them) the right things. Instead of studying film and looking within, they were choosing the ever popular – look away. Not anymore. A star humbled himself. A team picked him up (not picked him apart) and reminded him he’s better than that. He got better training plans. We got better as a team.
Another team got clarity around nutrition, rest and recovery. I ran into a few of them the day after and they had already met with their nutritionist to grab the reins. I could go on. I will stop.
You, friend, are a leader. You are on the hook, at a minimum, to lead yourself. I likely don’t know you well or at all. I do know you could use more clarity. Rinse your CORE writing. Rinse your OPUS. Tighten your PoP. (Don’t know what they are or haven’t authored them, FIO). Last I checked ain’t nobody coming to rescue you. Fact.
Back to your CORE, OPUS, and Pop. Look at them daily. Start the day with CORE based rituals. End it the same way. Life is an energy management problem and it’s yours to solve. Get clearer within and with your aim. Never stop. I’m a broken record. I’m a reminder. I care what you think, but not that much. My aim in work and life is clear. My attention is focused exclusively on C.O.P. I’m relentless tuning into more signal; noise, not at all. I’m clear. What about you?
