Yesterday was a beautiful day in central ohio. Sun was shining, warm air blowing, and the sense of Spring was in the air. What did I do to celebrate it?
Went to Central Ohio Skin and Cancer for my 70th cut. Damn.
Not my ideal day. Pain in the ass really. This one was center of my chest. Pretty large. Not very deep. End of story. These cuts are not going away. In fact, she took a biopsy on my right forehead which means 71 is coming soon. Damn.
Too much sun back in the day. Too little sunscreen (zinc oxide, no crazy chemicals is the sunscreen you want) and something else. We likely will never know. My docs say it makes no sense. This problem of mine, according to them, could not just be caused by too much sun. I’m getting cut in places that rarely saw it.
So, friend, you and I were dealt different cards. Play the hand. Smile. Endure. Do the best you can with what you’ve got. The cuts, kid issues, work struggles, and all the other stuff are just obstacles in the way. Channel a little Marcus Aurelius – make the obstacle the way. I’m choosing to be thankful for the cuts. One hundred years ago these rogue cells would have already stopped my sorriness. Perspective.
You choose. Your choices have consequences. Today, I’m taking it easy, hanging with Miss, watching a couple OSU LAX games (both men and women), and counting my blessings. You?
