Prepared and reactive…

Yesterday, during practice ONE.215, Grappy exclaimed we had done it again. You see, he started practice by sharing with his men the absolute gift of being a grandpa. Yes, we’re talking to 20ish grapplers about becoming grandpa’s. Freakin’ magic it was.

So after Grappy’s start, we watched with intent “To be a Man,” by Dax and Darius Rucker. Great song sent to me this week by JimmyTHEgant. It was worth the look and listen. The team of grapplers wrote what they saw and it was more freakin’ magic in the making. Grappy shared, about thirty minutes in, how he and I had not talked before team practice yet it seemed I’d pulled the perfect video to build on his beginning. We laughed.

I had not planned it.

I simply reacted to what he gave me. I used what had been forwarded to my sorriness by the baddest badASS I’ve ever met. This is the heart of our tagline – Together we transform. So, friend, what’s the message for you?

Show up prepared. Show up with a plan. Show up with a masters mindset. And, tune into your team.

Listen for the yearning, do not tune into the whining. When they give you the good stuff, go where they’re going. Scrap your well though out plan and give them what they’re really ready for. Funny, practice ONE.26 with a team of golfers went exactly as planned. Kicked their sorrinesses six ways to Sunday. Both hit the mark. One went according to plan and one went following the flow of the river. Your job, leader, is to prepare harder and adjust quicker. Your gig is a lot like good Improv theatre – it’s meant to look easy, free flowing, and funny. It. Is. Not. Great Improv is rooted in great discipline and thousands of hours of practice. I could go on. I’ll stop. Slow down. Reflect. Write.

Come prepared. Come ready to go where they’re going. Prepared and reactive. Simple, not easy. You sure you want to lead? Damn.

Live hard. Love ❤️ harder…

  1. This really hits home for me today and so glad that this was my read and write for the day. I read the blog twice and watched the video before picking up my pen. What a great practice and reactive add…
