MLK jr authored one of the greatest, most memorable speeches of all time.
I have a dream…
We don’t know the first time he gave this beauty. We don’t know how many times, in fact, he repeated himself. All we know is he gave this speech over and over again. So, when he got his BIG opportunity to speak to 200,000 + on August 28, 1963, he started off by giving them something new. He thought his audience had grown tired of his message, you know.
Fell flat.
Thank God his friend screamed out – “Give ’em the dream, Martin. Give ’em the dream.” And so he did. The rest? History.
So, leader, your team wants to hear your dream over and over and over again. You will get tired of delivering the message long before they tire of hearing it. Put it on repeat. From your heart. Keep it short. KISS (Keep it stupid simple).
Remember, leader, you’re a dealer in hope. You gotta believe it. You must connect ’em to the dream. Humans have a hard time hearing. Put it on repeat. You’ve been reminded. Funny, huh.
Live hard. Love harder…
