Eat food…

We’re omnivores. Our bodies are designed to run on a variety of foods.

So why do our Supermarkets mostly serve us corn? Simple. Because corn (and soy) are cheap cals, and back in the 1970’s our government decided to give us what we wanted – cheaper cals. So, if you shop anything but the outer ring of the Supermarket, you are mostly eating corn laced with pesticides we once used in Napalm. You are what you eat, right? Well, if you’re mindlessly eating what our governments giving you, you’re running on cheap cals with a whole lot of unintended consequences.

Joel Salatin is one crazy, Virginian farmer. His farm, Polyface farms, is designed for omnivores. He’s built something sustainable worth studying. He’s living and working according to his strong core and guided by his worldview. Here’s a quote from him found on page 47 in the 12 Essentials Playbook.

“The way I produce a chicken is an extension of my worldview. You can learn more about that by seeing what’s sitting on my bookshelf than having me fill out a whole bunch of forms. Me and the folks who buy my food are like the Indians – we just want to opt out. That’s all the Indians ever wanted – to keep their teepees, to give their kids their herbs, instead of patent medicines and leeches. They didn’t care if there was a Washington, D.C., or a Custer or a USDA; just leave us alone. But the Western mind can’t bear an opt out option. We’re going to have to re-fight the Battle of Little Big Horn to preserve the right to opt out, or your grandchildren and mine will have no choice but to eat amalgamated, irradiated, genetically prostituted, bar – coded, adulterated fecal spam from the centralized processing conglomerate.”

What do you believe? You are what you eat. Do you know what you’re eating? You’re an omnivore. Eat food.

Live hard. Love harder…
