This past week I met a young Californian who told me he works to live. We were sipping some fine Napa wine when he told me this. Was a great moment for sure. Beauty all around. He’s got his whole life ahead of him; me, not so much. Here’s what I told him.
Drop the either or thinking.
Live to work and work to live. Integrate. Life is an energy management problem, you know. If half your life is only to fuel the other half, you’ve got a problem. If, however, you love your work and your life, you’ve got a steady stream of juice flowing. This is opus. What, friend, do you believe? Slow down. Reflect. Maybe it’s time for you to re-solve.
Live hard. Love harder…
