Veterans Day used to mean uniforms, medals, and memories. Names. Faces. Firefights. Moments burned into my soul.
But I see it differently now. The real battle was never just out there. It’s in here – – – in my heart. I’ve lived among warriors. Men who would die so others might live. That’s not just valor.
That is love.
“Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends.”
–John 15:13
I used to think that verse described us. Now I know it defines Him. Jesus is that love. He is the One who laid His life down. He is the ultimate brother – – – the One who never leaves a man behind. When I look back now, I see it clearly. The brotherhood I fought for was a shadow of something greater. Every act of courage, every sacrifice, every fight, every drop of blood – – – it was all pointing to the Cross.
He is the true Captain. The true Commander. The true Brother.
And He calls us not just to serve…but to abide.
“This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you.”
– John 15:12
That’s the melody line of my life now. I am my brother’s keeper. Not because of duty. Because of love. The same love that once fueled the mission now fuels the ministry. The same fire that drove me to protect now drives me to pray. The same bond that carried me through war now calls me to peace.
Veterans – – – the mission is not over. We are still warriors. Still needed. Still chosen. Only now, the fight is higher. We fight for hearts. For hope. For souls.
“You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit.”
–John 15:16
So today, I remember. The brothers who fell. The brothers who fight on. The Brother who saved us all.
Until that final roll call – – – I will stand watch. I will keep the faith. I will love – – – because He first loved me.
I am my brother’s keeper.
And my Keeper is Jesus.
Together, always – – – ALWAYS TOGETHER.

I love you so, MM. It was priceless to see you again. Priceless…

Jimmy Gant,

And thank you for the service you provided to protect us all!
I will receive that…Thank you…!
Together – always, ALWAYS TOGETHER
priceless to be with you last week and to meet MM as a bonus. Such a privilege to study with you and practice what it means to be a keeper. This is who we are as builders, we are keepers. Only it is always together we transform, always two-gether.
How appropriate for this 1111 day.
John, John, John…
BEing WITH….was…I have no words. The Spirit abounds…everywhere all the time…We have spent much time in combat TOGETHER, you and I. The most dangerous and difficult combat I have ever experienced. Thank you for sharing your gifts with me and pointing the towards the Way, the Truth, the Life. It is easy to say, “I believe”. It is WHOLE different “to be” belief. You have modeled the way for me. Simple, not easy.
Yes! We are keepers.
AND – – – I am my brother’s keeper – – – truly, truly, truly.
ONWARD.
Together We Transform – always, ALWAYS TOGETHER.
John 14:1-7
