Yesterday morning as I quietly walked toward the gym at The Breakers, I stopped to take a sip of my coffee as I walked past this dude doing his job, you know. As I enjoyed my cafe for a brief moment, I heard a man ask a question – “Do you need anything, sir?” Looking around there were no other sirs to be found but this old dog. I turned around and sure enough he was asking me. After a brief conversation, I was on my way thinking this is why The Breakers is such a great resort. Dudes like this are doing their job and seeing if they can do more.
The pics below are the same window washer from this morning. I rode the Pelly for an hour and he was meticulously doing his thing to perfection. Had to redo a couple panes more than once as he wanted it perfect when he finished. He took the time to smile at me as I rode the bike to nowhere and took pics of him being perfect. He’s been working here for years and loves it. Loves the people and the work. It was evident in the quality of his work and his attention to every detail. Want a better team? Become a better leader. Train your team like The Breakers trains theirs. Freakin’ magic is all about the quality of your hire and the quality of your training. Culture is an outcome of these two done without compromise. Service is not out of style. Gimme a break. Actually, gimme a Breakers. Damn.

Live hard. Love harder…
