The best leaders in history have been reluctant. Fact. America’s foremost father, George Washington, did not seek power or position. When The Revolutionary war was in it’s final chapter a few of his teammates (mostly motivated by their lack of pay, btw) put forth a proposal to crown him King.
He said no bueno.
It was May 1782. Washington’s response was right from his CORE. “The first wish of my soul is to return speedily into the bosom of that country which gave me birth and, in the sweet enjoyment of domestic happiness and the company of a few friends, to end my days in quiet.”
June 1783. The war is over. Washington’s response? “I’m now prepared to resign my commission as commander in chief of the American forces and return to that domestic retirement which, it is well known, I left with greatest reluctance, a retirement for which I have never ceased to sigh through a long and painful absence.”
His retirement would not last long.
He would reluctantly become USA’s first president in 1789. The people wanted him for a third term. He refused. He was reluctant George. Revered for his strength and humility. Lead like this, friend. Strong CORE. Authentic OPUS. Deep humility. Damn.
Live hard. Love ❤️ harder by George…

just watched the documentary, and when King George Iii heard he was going to resign his command he declared “by God that will make him the greatest man in all the world if he does that”
