This early morning I rode the elevator down to get coffee. A business pro rode alongside. He was all suited up for his BIG conference this morning. As we waited in line for our latte’s, a young woman came up to him with all smiles. She couldn’t wait to ask him if he was Nellies dad. A puzzled look crossed his face as he answered he was. Again, smiles, grabbed her parents and introduced him to them by saying he gave the greatest wedding speech she had ever heard at Nellie and Will’s wedding a few years back. He graciously thanked her and shook hands with the parents.
Then the bomb was dropped.
She told business pro she was getting married tomorrow and how excited she was to see Nellie and Will again. They’re arriving today, you know, she said assumingly. This time her comment was greeted with blank stares. He. Had. No. Idea.
Great reminder, friend. Great lives integrate work and life. It’s not gonna be enough to simply go pro. It’s not enough to show up on the BIG stage. The minutia of the mundane moments are where real relationships are built. Don’t be one of those dudes who wins at work only to lose at life. Integrate.
Live hard. Love harder…
