OPUS traditions…

America’s first award winning wine? You’re looking at it – Opus One. This baby was Robert Mondavi’s big dream come true. Back in the 1970’s America produced only table wine, cheap stuff. Opus One changed all that. Napa would never be the same.

Every Thanksgiving and Christmas I open a bottle and share it with our family. Some years we have to open two to give everyone a taste. This year it was just Miss and me. I still opened that bad boy. Miss did not have a sip (she does not drink but on special occasions of her deciding). I had two glasses on Thanksgiving eve, two more on Thanksgiving dinner, and there’s one glass left for today.

Opus One reminds me of the power of a BIG dream. His fellow American wine producers thought Robert was off his rocker trying to compete with Italy and France back in the 1970’s. They owned the high end market, who did he think he was? He thought Napa soil was something special, so he partnered with Baron Von Rothschild (Frenchie) and the rest is history.

Don’t be intimidated by vaunted rivals. Know your strengths. Play to them. Dream BIGr. Do more. Damn.

Live hard. Love harder…

Today’s lunch. Of course, a little Opus. You?
