Celebrate…

Back in my corporate days at CompuServe we knew how to celebrate wins. I had a small horn in my office. Whenever somebody sold something, I would hop out of my chair, grab my tiny horn, go out in the hallway and honk it. People would gather round and hear the story of some win that had happened somewhere around the world. No cash prizes were handed out. No dinners. No stock options. Just sharing the joy of a win. Created energy. Was contagious. Worth catching too.

Everybody loves to celebrate a win.

Yesterday, during practice ONE.125, a team of winners admitted they’ve stopped celebrating as they once did. Gotten BIG. Busy. Expected. They’re winning all the time and just getting on with it, you know. The feeling most prevelant after winning, I asked. Relieved.

Not good.

So, I reminded them of the joy of winning and sharing the joy with those who helped make it happen. Honk the horn. Ring the bell. Takes little time. Reminds everyone why we’re here. Spreads joy. This is good. So, leader, make celebrating little wins one of your sacred rituals. Tell the winning story. Mention people by name. Share credit. Spread the recognition beyond the one or two individuals. Talk about the dudes behind the scenes who helped make it happen. Give ’em a honk or two. Make this a habit of the heart.

Remember, leader, love ❤️ the work. Love ❤️ the team. Love ❤️ both enough to make time to celebrate when you’re BIG and busy. Celebrate little wins. You’ve been reminded. Damn.

Live hard. Love ❤️ harder. Celebrate…
