Not too long ago a client and I discussed a high performer we just couldn’t figure out. She has all the tools but both of us know there’s more. Nothing to date had unlocked her. Seemingly her leader had tried everything. Except one.
During another one on one practice focused on this high performer, my client had an “aha” moment. With crystal clarity the way forward appeared. Without so much as blinking an eye, my client shared her revelation. “I know what to do,” she began. Then came the bomb. “I’m going to show her grace.”
And, so she did. Talked to her high performer. Did not judge. Listened. Learned. Got curious. Gave the gift of understanding. Demonstrated grace. What happened? Did not unhinge her high performer. Not at all. Her high performer did not take advantage of the giver. Nope, not even close. She felt led. Freakin’ magic happened.
Unlocked her.
We see, now, what she looks like going full gas. Damn. Maybe, you have a high performer who is underperforming. Maybe all they need is to feel your grace. Unwarranted. Unmitigated. Grace. Yeah, grace just may be under appreciated. When was the last time you tried giving grace instead of demanding more?
Tough and tender in just the right doses, to the right person, at the right time, and to the right degree. Wisdom. Damn.
