Rereading The Real George Washington has more than humbled my sorriness. The heat of summer is upon us. It’s going to be a near record high today. No big deal to this soft dude. I’m sitting in the comfort of my home. AC on. My toes are cold. Had to go get slippers.
Soft.
GW’s crossing of the Delaware was cold as ice. Literally. The river was filled with it. Over half his army didn’t make the show. He led them, anyway. Once they crossed the ice infested river, he would lead them on a nine mile march toward Trenton. The Hessians had partied hard celebrating Christmas, of all things. You could follow George’s troops by their trail of blood. Why?
Walking on ice with little to no shoes. They walked on, anyway. Walked into hell following their leader. GW and his ragtag bunch of freedom fighters would score a decisive victory. Why? ‘Cause George had BIG balls. He led them from the bloody front. Always first on, last off. Damn.
Makes me smile thinking this is who we are. At minimum, it’s who we were. STOP the search for hacks. There is no easy way to greatness. None. STOP making excuses. STOP hoping for a freakin’ miracle. STOP sliding down the slippery slope of comfort and convenience. Run into hard. Know your why. Know your way. Know this too.
You’re soft.
Likely getting softer. Do some hard shit today. Innoculate yourself. Same with your team. No team rises beyond the level of their leaders. You are soft. Admit it. Commit to becoming less soft. That’s a great start. Do a few hard things today. Tomorrow a few mo. Remember whose you are. Remember who you are. Remember why you’re here. Remember where you’re going. Remind yourself each morning of this great gift. Remind your team.
Run into hard. Know why. Damn.
Live hard. Love ❤️ harder…
