1776. The British are world numero uno. We, Americans, are a colony of thirteen and far from united. George III flexes. Stamp Act. Taxes our ASSes off. We comply until the pain of paying overcomes the fear of dying. So, a tiny nation makes the seemingly suicidal decision to take on the world superpower. Why?
Freedom more from tyranny than for anything really. The fight for personal freedoms was there but secondary to the fight from increasingly intolerant oppression. The British fought for paltry pay, fear of officers, for the crown, and some portion of fickle, fading glory (always is, btw).
America had a deeper why. When it got ugly, our leaders reminded our ragtag bunch why we’re fighting. We mostly bought it. So, we brought it.
Leaders are believers. Leaders are connectors, reminders too. Leaders initiate. Is your OPUS informed by your CORE? Are you believable? Does your team connect to the company’s cause? You growing tired of reminding them why we’re here, where we’re going, and why it matters? Slow down. Reflect. Write. Go deeper. Your team has a hard time hearing. Remind them. Again. Damn.
