Nobody cares. Work harder.
This is a great mantra for those who’ve hit something they didn’t expect. They overachieved, so to speak. Great mantra for those who’ve been hit by something they didn’t expect. Been punched in the mouth. In other words, great mantra for us all.
Heard this a million times. “I won last week. Everyone is looking at me to repeat. I feel the weight of their expectations.” It’s not true.
“Made the XYZ. When I showed up, everyone was looking at me. I felt OMG I’m expected to perform.” Not true.
“Our preseason ranking is best in program history. What if we don’t perform up to expectations. Will we let everyone who believes in us down?” Nope. Here’s truth.
Nobody cares. Work harder.
Others expectations do not matter. They don’t care, at least not so much about you. You do. It’s your expectations you are feeling and not dealing with. If you want to be great, expect resistance. Expect adversity. Expect pressure. Expect obstacles in your way. Do not overcomplicate it by thinking others are counting on you. They. Are. Not. Play your game. Own your lockerrrom. Create community within the confines of your team. Close it down. Keep it sacred and safe. Your team does care. You care. The rest?
Noise.
I could write this rant everyday and it would not be enough. You and your expectations are yours to own. Others are not counting on you. Well, some might be, and that’s on them. Circle the fu^&ing wagons. Do your job. Enjoy your teammates. Create a camaraderie of suffering. Smile as you learn to do hard things well by doing them not so well.
Life is hard. Designed so. Embrace it. Expect it. Forget others expectations. Why? Because it’s a figment of your imagination. Nobody cares. Work harder. Damn.
Live hard. Love ❤️ harder…

Be more like this athlete. Increase belief. Remember, belief is not a burden. Damn.
