Stand and Walk Tall…

The past three days I’ve been with a group of clients reviewing the 12 Essentials of Personal Excellence. Actually, we spent all our time on only two of the 12. Building your CORE and building your communications skills. It was a great group and an awesome time of growth for all of us. Towards the end of day three a great question was posed. What will you look like when you build a strong CORE? Here’s how I replied.

A strong CORE gives you:

Real strength. Just like your six pack abs strengthen your spine, a strong CORE gives you the strength to walk TALL. Other people and circumstances no longer define who you are. You do.

Clarity of vision. You clearly see your way forward and are on a mission as you walk. You live on purpose and by your principles. You feel called.

Consideration of others. You seek to understand other people instead of trying to fix them. You understand that not everyone shares your worldview and begin to appreciate the differences. You care deeply, listen intently and deliver a message that is heard. You choose to love people.

Consistency. You become more and more predictable. Your character is becoming more deeply engraved on your heart. You control how you respond to circumstances and other people because you choose to.

Changing. Almost paradoxically, you are not only more consistent but also more changeable. You inspire deep change in yourself and set an example for others. You choose to change.

Confident. As you strengthen your CORE you build what the world cannot give you, what money cannot buy you, but what we all deeply need. A strong sense of self. You know who you are and what you want to do. As you live consistently this way you are able to authentically esteem yourself. You experience true self esteem. You begin to believe you have what it takes.

Community. People are attracted to real strength. Remember…mass attracts mass. You experience real community as you give what you have learned to your family, friends, coworkers and neighbors. You discover how to love yourself and are able to love others.

Contentment. You live a great life…and in the end a life worth living. You are at peace with who you are.

Building a strong CORE…there is no substitute. You are being built to lead. The key is, do you know who is your builder? Please do not delegate, delay or defer the building of your CORE. You choose. Your choices have consequences.

Take care,

Chet
