I’m off to Arizona in search of the sun with the family. I think we’ll find it. Next time you and I will talk it will be April. Wow.
Here’s the new reads I’m taking.
Survival of the Sickest…think freakonomics for medicine.
The Afhan Campaign…Pressfields new one. It’s an old story about a unbeaten army from the West that invades an eastern tribal foe. Wonder if Bush might have wished he read this one a few years ago. This is the story of Alexander the Great…and his RETREAT.
Pistol…The story of Pete Maravich. The guy averaged 44 a game before the 3 point shot.
Just finished…
Faith of the Fatherless, by Paul Vitz…this is worth reading just for the beginning piece.
Genius, by James Gleick. This one’s loaded with learning. I’m not a scientist but Gleick paints a great picture of what one is. Richard Feynman experimented…early and often.
The New American Workplace, by O’Toole and Lawler. This one takes a look at business changes in America over the last thirty years. Very similiar feel to Free Agent Nation with a lot more data. Here’s one that should shock you. 1973 Fortune 500 CEO pay was 40:1 to frontline workers. Today…400:1. Lots to think about in this one.
Now Go Put Your Strengths to Work, by Marcus Buckingham. This is a waste of time. Just keep watching the Trombone Player Wanted and skip the book.
The No Asshole Rule. This is a best seller that I tried to like but it lacks punch. Don’t bother.
True North, by Bill George. This one is a borderline one. There’s some good stories about Oprah, Starbucks, Andy Grove and Pottruck from Schwab. If you liked his first book, Authentic Leadership you will like this one. A little too predictable for me.
The Halo Efect, by Phil Rosenzweig. This is a keeper. Anybody that takes pot shots at Jim Collins and Peter Drucker had better have a compelling argument. He does. Read it. Think.
What are you reading?
What are you learning?
What are you applying?
Let me know…
