The Power of TWO…

Together we improve is more than our tagline at BTL. It’s what we demand from ourselves and expect from our clients. We believe in the power of two. This is written throughout our playbooks. This is how we live.

I just finished reading the Alchemist, the best selling book in Brazil. The author puts forth that if one will dare to dream and if the dream is his or her “personal legend” that the world will go “out of it’s way” to help. His version, if you will, of the POWER of others.

My daughter and I are in San Antonio as I write because of this POWER. My LIFES PARTNER and SOUL MATE is doing what she always does to help. EVERYTHING. She is taking care of our “wounded” oldest, running with our youngest, AND still getting our taxes organized. She will be with us, this trip, in Spirit only. We are always together this way. Funny, I actually believe we always will be.

My PARTNER Pete is covering me at my work. My PARTNER Larry has arranged through his PARTNER Rob, my stay. My PARTNERS at BTL are doing all this because they want to. Very cool. As Kristi and I begin our search for tickets to tonight’s game I can hardly wait to see how the universe comes together to help. I’m expecting greatness today and tomorrow regardless of who wins. VICTORY, for us, is simply being HERE and being TOGETHER.

AND being here with one of my best friends growing up, BRYAN, who is flying in as we write. Being here with Larry’s friend Rob who we’ll meet later today. AND being here with my only international client who, on a conference call this morning, informed me that he was NOT calling me from Barcelona. He was calling me from San Antonio. You see he’s here on business AND now he’s taking Kristi and me to the “best steakhouse” in the world tomorrow.

I’m beginning to believe I understand a little bit more about these Alchemist’s. Very cool.

Look for me and Kristi tonight at the Alamodome AND please, root on the JAYHAWKS. We met these guys in November at their first week of practice. I guess, we think of them as our friends too, huh Tay.

Who knew?

  1. Wow! Chet, what a game to attend. I wonder when you’ll get your voice back…?

Re: the power of people, I have a brief story. As you know, I am implementing a strengths-based managerial model here at work. Last week, I had occasion to share that approach with our internal recruiting lead in HR. She “got it” immediately, and then set up a lunch yesterday for me to meet with the managing director of an executive recruiter we have on permanent retainer, who just so happens to have worked many years at Gallup and is an expert in how to implement strengths-based disciplines at work. He’s agreed to provide consulting guidance for free, since that will allow him to more fully understand our company and positions his as better able to serve our needs. Wow, “who knew?”

  2. I agree with Jim. It was even more fun watching it knowing you were there, Chet. Talk about living just on this side of CHAOS, talk about MAGIC, talk about BELIEVING. . . what you didn’t see Chet that you need to is the builder’s speech before the UNC game and the Championship game that Coach Self gave (most ironic name for an unselfish guy, but he does know he is and has a strong CORE). AND afterwards the way Coach Self honored his team AND the former players AND the former coaches (did you see Roy Williams in the stands in his JAYHAWK sweatshirt?).

p.s. ALSO, you’ll want to go to http://www.NCAA.com because CBS has allowed them to put the video of the whole game up on their web site for free
