BTL rinse…

Today the Band of Builders invested time clarifying our vision and purpose.  We are rewriting our PVPP as I mentioned earlier.  We are living one of our foundational beliefs that comes from Adler, I believe…

“There is no such thing as good writing, only good re-writing.”  We’re clear, getting clearer, and headed toward uncommon clarity.  We will, however, always be under construction.  All that this represents is clarifying what we’ve come to know so far.  As masters that LOVE our work, we will always be learning more.  We will always be applying what we’ve recently come to know.  The “orange barrels” will always be out.  Isn’t that weird?

Sooooooooo, here’s another rinse from the Band.  Feel free to comment, question, or ask for more.  AND, thanks in advance for your attention.

BTL Vision:

Our BIG dream is to transform the way the world works and lives, one individual, one team, one leader at a time.  We want to become “masters” in the art of living and masters in the art of building “human masterpieces.”  We want to grow old, but NOT tired, with a band of like minded builders who LOVE becoming BUILT TO LEAD, who LOVE each other, and who LOVE their family, friends, and clients enough to build them too.  AND, we hope to inspire future generations to build “it” even better.

This is where we’re going, our dream state.

BTL Purpose:

We transform “a collection” of  individuals, teams, and leaders into “A team” that is, BUILT TO LEAD.

Or…

We transform ordinary individuals, teams, and leaders into extraordinary performers in work and life.

Or…

We transform “a collection” of individuals, teams, and leaders into ONE that is BUILT TO LEAD.

This is WHY we are here.

Please help us rinse and repeat until it’s squeaky clean.  Band, family, friends, clients, and all of you are invited to share.  Again, we welcome your thoughts, comments, and questions.

Lets TALK…

4 thoughts on “BTL rinse…

  1. Chet, I love the fact that you are “wallowing” with the Band in order to live true to your belief that BTL is always “under construction.” Your vision inspires me and I don’t think I want to change a thing in it right now.

Here’s my contribution to PURPOSE. Let’s keep it clear, concise and direct:

“We build exceptional performance in individuals, teams and leaders for work AND life.”
    –awakened to personal greatness.
    –anchored to CORE principles
    –inspired by compelling purpose.

My brain hurts, but my heart overflows. Comment, edit, critique, rinse, repeat.

  2. Chet, I have been percolating on this and almost wrote a reply last night, but thought some zzzz’s would help. They did. Here’s my reaction.

    Closer, but not there yet.

I re-scanned the 8 and 12 this morning. here’s the melody line I picked up. The CORE of the 12 is Build Your CORE, and the CORE of the 8 is Build TRUST. All the other stuff is vitally important, but plays a secondary, supporting role to those two “CORE” concepts.

CORE + TRUST = BUILT TO LEAD

So, I asks myself, I asks “What is the CORE OF THE CORE???” And here’s what I hear as the melody:

    PURPOSE.

    Is our purpose, “purpose?”

The CORE is all about coming to discover, clarify, rinse, repeat, write, re-write, and unleash the POWER of PURPOSE! It’s about helping others anchor themselves to a rock, sink a deep keel, and tap into the most powerful force in the universe–LOVE. If it happens to be the source of eternal love, all the better. It’s the power of passion-inspired purpose, made clear, concise, and direct. It’s an individual thing. Utterly unique. Totally “them.” The reason WHY THEY’RE HERE. POWERFUL!!! Like a Warhorse–harnessed, dressed for battle, and under their command. Meek, as in “controlled power.” But strong and bold, as in “free to pursue MY purpose in life.” It is BELIEF in the rock, the keel, and the source, and belief in the self. Finally directed, not disconnected. It is the essence of leadership and the root of all trust.

Now, TRUST flows from PURPOSE through humility, optimism, and courage into personal trust. Later, as knowledge of self grows and integrity gaps close, into ethical trust. Later, as emotional intelligence and communication skills lead to deeper interdependence, into situational trust. And later, through learning as knowledge and wisdom grow, into strategic trust.

Without PURPOSE, trust cannot grow. Without TRUST, team excellence is impossible. Without BOTH, there is no leadership. While both are required, without purpose, there is no foundation. Therefore, I see the root of the 12 AND the 8 as PURPOSE.

BUILT TO LEAD exists to help individuals, teams, and leaders achieve excellence by unleashing the power of passion-inspired purpose.

  3. In your BTL purpose, I find the “we transform” a bit misleading. Isn’t the point to wake them up and for them to find realize they are capable of transforming themselves? One of the best definitions of leadership I have ever read is, “The ability to inspire self-motivation in others.” Isn’t it all about the “co-action”? Are the builders modeling the process as they work others through it? Morpheus never claimed to be “finished” when he spoke with Neo.
In fact, isn’t the hope that you find others with greater levels of understanding as they stand on the shoulders of giants that came before them?
The builders are the catalyst. They are the spark that sets of the reaction inside the individual and then they are truly on the journey together. This is where the collaboration begins and there becomes little distinction between the “old” and “new” builder…
    Just a thought

  4. Yes, yes, yes. We are the transforming one and the catalyst for another’s transformation. The “We” implies both those thoughts. I am trying to shorten the purpose piece to a statement all builders can remember and, all our clients as well. As you know, there are plenty of additional thoughts behind this singular sentence. We feel that “Waking up dead people,” as powerful as it is doesn’t properly describe our defining purpose. Our defining purpose is to serve as a transforming force to bring “a collection” of very distinct and often times very “silo” teams into ONE team. Still struggling to make this clear, concise, and direct. This is a great struggle. Your help is always welcome…

    Thanks and keep ’em coming.
