Leaders believe…

The BTL process for building strong individuals, teams, and leaders is a lengthy and meaty one. There aren’t shortcuts to building excellence and taking the long way ’round will oftentimes feel quite lonely, because it is. Our purpose, remember, is to “Awaken, Challenge, and together Transform a few individuals, teams, and leaders into ONE. ONE, distinct and deeply connected, that is BUILT TO LEAD.  This is why we are here.

We begin our work with the head of the system, because building here has the widest spillover effect. Gains here, trickle down so to speak. Our aim is to build the head of the system into a leader. This sounds easy because we assume the head has been gifted with the goods, so to speak. Building a leader is real, hard, work and only for the few. A real leader, you see, is a believer. Leaders are believers.

Leaders believe they are the problem. “Huh?” Leaders believe they are the systems most limiting factor. “What?” Leaders believe they are their own worst enemy. “You’re kidding me, right?” Leaders believe they have blind spots and live in an information vacuum of growing proportions. “No way!”

Way.

Leaders believe they have the team they deserve. Leaders believe they must model the way, embrace ACUTE pain and suffering, and embody truth in LOVE. Leaders believe their vision is worth dying for. “Now wait a second. Nobody said anything about dying in my last leadership forum.”

Leaders believe only a damn few will ever come alongside. “Hey, have you seen the size of my following. I’ve got way more than a few. This guy’s gotta be nuts.” Leaders believe they are NOT victims. “Dear Lord, finally some place we agree. I’m not a victim but I sure see plenty around this place. We could use a few more like me and far fewer of them.” Leaders believe they are overtuned to their own justice thread tweaks and undertuned to their teams. Leaders believe “my way is the highway,” they listen to their teams highway and are open to finding the best way ’round. “My way is the highway. Why can’t my team see it is what I need some help with around here. When, pray tell, are you gonna get to that?” Leaders beliefs inspire because leaders are infused from something beyond themselves. “I believe we better get on with it around here. This BTL bunch of nonsense isn’t helping. Hell, it’s been three quarters and nothing measurable has changed. I had so hoped this program was better but it’s just like all the other ones I’ve tried. Back to my way.”

At BTL we are in the business of building a damn few that are leaders. We invest most of our building efforts in building ourselves. We believe we cannot take our clients further than we’ve gone ourselves. So, we keep climbing.

Leaders are believers.

Does your team sense and smell your belief in yourself, in them, in your vision, or in something else. One thing we know for certain is they smell something when you come round and it’s either inspiring their great work or something else. Your beliefs matter. Are you awake enough to know ’em?

Tell me more, my friend. Tell me more…

  1. And one more in the words of your best builder…. Leaders believe and PRACTICE “the ministry of being WITH”…

Translate: leaders practice WITH their team, they take team members WITH them whatever they are doing wherever they are going (most go-it/do-it alone cuz it’s faster-easier), and they speak & listen & laugh & cry WITH them not TO them.

The litmus test? Your team will believe…and feel it in their gut of guts… that they work WITH you…not FOR you.
