The Stoics of ancient Greece believed the greatest obstacle wasn’t death, suffering, or pain of any type, but cowardice. Tibetan monks believed the lack of control of the mind was mankind’s biggest mess in the making. Today, modern science validates both and gives us data to help us believe. Norman Doidge, in his latest masterpiece titled The Brain’s Way of Healing gives us the latest neuroscience that both Stoic and Monk would approve. I’m still processing what I’m learning but this book’s a keeper and worthy of your investment of time and energy.
Stoics, Monks, and Science all agree – chronic pain is learned. Modern medicine now has some data to support a significant “and,” regarding chronic pain – it not only indicates illness, it is an illness. Wrap your brain around that thought before you up the ante on more pain med’s, friend. Maybe, just maybe, you need a little courage combined with a new mindset to take out some of the chronic pain in your present system. Don’t believe me. Believe modern science. Your brain may be able to to do more than the ancients could ever prove, yet somehow always knew.
Thanks, Roger, for the recommendation…

Truth. Important to recognize pain stops when acknowledged as transitory. It can’t last long. The body won’t allow it.
