Day 45 Freakin’ magic in the making…

One of my passions is art, specifically great masterpieces by artists such as Michelangelo, Caravaggio, Monet, and Seurat, to name just a few. And if I spend time at The Met or The Art Institute, I want to know that the beauty I am taking in is the real deal. The original, not a reproduction. With a proven provenance.

I recently learned about an interesting approach to helping museum guests get more from the experience. The average museum goer spends less than 30 seconds in front of a work of art, and most of that time they are skimming the wall text instead of viewing the piece. I know I’ve been guilty of this in the Modern Art Wing, not one of my faves. However, just think about that metric…a gifted artist takes months if not years to create a masterpiece to have it viewed in less than 30 seconds by a modern audience? That is sad to think about!

To help guests slow down and really take in the pieces of art, a British TV show was created called Fake! The Great Masterpiece Challenge. Their approach was to place seven fake paintings in galleries alongside original masterpieces. The museum goers who correctly identified the fakes were rewarded with a cash prize.

One of the creators of the challenge expressed that the keys to success in this challenge were to slow down… get curious… and have an eye for detail.

In Day 45 of BBTL, Chet reminds us that we are a masterpiece in the making. We are Becoming and Belonging. As Builders we challenge you to slow down, get curious, and invest purposeful practice with an eye for detail on who you are & Whose you are (Identity), what you believe and why (Worldview), what you love and why (Passions), and why you are here (Purpose). Four important facets of our Core. For me, this is the ‘starter kit’ to authoring your Core…with five more facets of Core to discover and author.

I think of Core work as peeling back the layers that life and others lay on us (at times unfairly so), and to shed anything that is not the real you, to identify your true essence…the masterpiece you are and that you are becoming. You are truly one of a kind!

I’m learning a great deal from my sweet grandbaby. Who he is in his essence is becoming clearer to me – his sweet temperament, his sense of joy and wonder, his curiosity, his love of connecting and communicating, how he expresses what he likes and doesn’t like. As one of his most loving and dedicated Builders, I want Jack to know who he is, Whose he is, and how immensely loved he is by his Creator and by his family. I want him to be and become the masterpiece God has designed him to be and not let anyone try to force him to be what he was not designed to be. I want to empower him on his Builder’s journey of becoming and belonging. All out of great love.

For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things He planned for us long ago. Ephesians 2:10 (New Living Translation)

Friend, how are you working on the masterpiece that is you? Who are you becoming? Do you know Whose you are? Are you discovering where you belong and why? I want to encourage you to slow down, stay curious, reflect, and then write with an eye for detail as you do your important Core work.

This world needs all of the beautiful, original masterpieces of God living life fully alive.
