It’s Ash Wednesday, the beginning of Lent. Followers of Christ observe this period of 40 days to be reminded of who we are, why we’re here, and where we’re going. Here’s my leadership “and,” for what it’s worth.
Whether you observe this season or not, remember we leaders are not called to a sense of superiority but, instead, to a spirit of serving. As for me, I need lots of reminders to stay grounded in this reality. I tend to get high on self and sense I deserve better from those I serve. Talk about a self serving sentiment, huh. Real strength does not need to feel superior. As Margaret Thatcher said not so long ago, “Being powerful is like being a lady. If you have to tell people you are, you aren’t.”
God, help me put to ashes my sense of superiority and humbly build a servants heart. God, help me remember my biggest challenge = leading me. God, help me…
