Day 91: Talk does not cook rice…

…or, if you like your rice sticky, think of it this way — you must ‘wok’ your talk.

There’s certainly a place for talking. Teams desperately want to connect with their leaders, which is why “Let’s Talk” is the opening practice in our 8 Essentials of Leading Teams.

But the point of this stir fry is this — you can’t reach your Dream State by just talking. The Builder’s Journey involves MOT followed by Productive Action.

Ralph Waldo Emerson is our go-to BTL builder on this topic:

“Most men live lives of quiet desperation and die with their song still inside them.”

Translation? Most people Dream & Die. Only a few Dream & DO.

“Our chief want in life is someone who shall make us DO what we can.”

Translation? We are not designed to go it alone. Together we transform.

“What you do speaks so loudly that I cannot hear what you say.”

Translation? Actions (or inactions) speak louder than words.

Confront your fear. Write out what’s holding you back. Is it what others might think? …fear of failing? …not getting it perfect? …afraid of the choices you might lose? Get to the root, get it out on paper, and bring it into the light. Next, fire up your love and write about your why and how good it will feel when you are actually moving.

Then send your writing to an Emersonian builder who will give you courage to start cooking.

Wok your talk. This is starting to smell really good.

Done so.
