Mom…You are one of a kind!

Dear Mom,

I learned about bravery and courage, not on the battlefields of Afghanistan and Iraq but in our home in Hobbs, NM all those years ago. I have lost many memories but not the ones when it was just you and I trying to make our way in the world – together.

We did it!

Those were painful, hard, wonderful and joyous times. It was during that time when I witnessed with my own eyes you, pick yourself up, grab your shield and “hold the line”…for me. I still don’t know how you did it. Truly, I don’t. I am sure that I would have ended up dead, in jail, or on the street had it not been for my mother.

Thank you for all the care, the love, the toughness – – – thank you for coming to all my football games, my track meets and especially all of those basketball games. Thank you for working an extra job. Thank you for putting up with all of the “jack-assery” that I was involved in!

Thank you for being a spiritual guide to me by the way you live(d) your life.

How many men can say that they were baptized with their mom? I can say it and I am so thankful that you lead me to Church – and yet, you never made me go! How’d you do that?

Thank you for understanding that all those years I was at war, I just couldn’t bear telling you about it. I didn’t want you to know what I was doing and the evil that was happening all around me.

Thank you for listening to me when I did come home.

Thank you for being a mom who I can call and share my spiritual journey with…and thank you for sharing your love of God with me. Your faith increases mine.

Lastly, I want you to know that I know one thing for certain:

No one on earth has ever or will ever love me as much as you do.

Thank you, Mom.

I love you with all of my heart.

Your only son,

Kirk
