Habits don’t magically appear when you need them the most. They must be built and deeply embedded if you want them to show up in times of stress.
A client of mine came into practice overwhelmed and out of sorts. He wanted to take the time to prioritize in real time with me. I asked him how much writing he’d done in the last few days to get clarity. None. That’s the real problem.
The problem is that he must become his own greatest influence, which happens through writing. Don’t wait for time with me as the only forcing function to get you to slow down. When you’re overwhelmed, write. When you’re not overwhelmed, write. Have the habit in place so that it’s automatic in a time of need.
