The Gift of Belief…

One of my first BTL memories from 2016 was when Chet shared his belief that the greatest gift a leader can give their team is the gift of belief.  I did not quite understand it at the time but have felt it from him ever since that day over 10 years ago and I am extremely grateful for the gift.

I took our 5-year-old on the golf course the other night to play our first 2 holes together. After he was done, I put my ball on the tee of the 150-yard par 3 for the last shot of the night. I said to him “You think I can make it Beck”?  I did not see his response coming.

He said “Yes Dad absolutely! Remember you got a double eagle and an eagle before. You got this, I believe in you!”  My heart opened, my jaw dropped and although I did not check the hole in one off my golf bucket list, it was one of the best golf moments of my life.

Here is the leadership lesson – we invest so much time focused on training the fundamentals and communicating standards. We exert so much energy addressing underperforming teammates or getting frustrated with results. But we must never forget that power of instilling belief in our people.  It truly is the greatest gift of all, and I believe can have transformational impact to those that receive it.

Who can use some of your belief today? Go deliver it from the heart.
