Why is upper management so hesitant to embrace BUILT TO LEAD was the question that started it. Jerry’s response stopped it. I really have come to like Jerry over the few months I’ve gotten to know him. He doesn’t mix his messages. He is clear, concise, and direct. In today’s politically correct world, that is so REFRESHING. Jerry’s response was simple. The executives hesitancy was probably based on their FEAR. Their fear that people might leave…you know, become built to LEAVE.
Jerry got me thinking.
Our company could be named BUILT TO LEAVE.
Our stated purpose is to “wake up dead people,” get them to dream BIG, and then help them reach their dreams. I guess we do want our clients to leave. We want them to get on the hero’s journey. Any journey requires that we leave…something.
What do we want our families, friends, and clients to leave? Do we want them to leave their employers, employees, families, or friends? In a word, well, NO.
We only desire to be a catalyst for building strong individuals, teams, and leaders. As we study, learn, and apply what causes strong lives we have made many discoveries and have many more in store. Here’s two big things we know with crystal clarity.
Great lives and therefore great teams are lived and built by people that have chosen to LEAVE. They have chosen to leave their FEAR…behind.
High performance individuals, teams, and leaders face their fears, leave them behind, and jump. They wake up and dream big. They get on the hero’s journey. For most this means no change in where they are employed. For some it does. For all it means that they fall. They fall in LOVE again with their work and life. They become a soul on fire wherever they are. This is never a BAD thing. This is nothing to fear.
What are you leaving?
What is holding you back?
What makes you feel strong?
Who needs to know?
How can you make it safer for your team to leap?
How can you be a little more like Jerry? Try practicing being clear, concise, and direct…
