EPIC…

Why do our young people gravitate toward playing video games for hours on end?  The real reason is NOT because these kids are lazy, suffer from some sorta attention disfunction, or are just plain insignificant compared to “the greatest generation.”  Why do over one half of the United States total population (183,000,000) actively engage in playing World of Warcraft, Halo 3, or some other multi-player creation online?  Why?

Because it is REAL, HARD, WORK. Funny, huh.

Because the game was designed to allow them to “EPIC fail,” and then learn from their mistake.  The game was designed to give them a goal worth striving toward.  The game was designed to help them discover their real strengths, and then play to them.  The game was designed to give them instant feedback to increase their skills.  The game was designed for them to collaborate with those that they LOVE or those that barely know all with the same aim…

An EPIC win.

Today, at your place of OPUS, design an environment more compelling than your fantasy football league.  Develop a space that deeply engages your team.

Develop a space where your team wants to come together, do good work together, toward a crystal clear vision, with a real sense of purpose, side by side with team mates they respect, all the while developing their skills, all the while bathing in a feedback system that is designed to move them along their road to mastery.  Amazing what we can learn from a bunch of gamers.

Funny, huh.
