Listening hearts…

Leonardo da Vinci is widely recognized as the greatest genius of all time. We study him and his essentials for building genius. He has lots to teach us about building wisdom and headlines that essential in BTL. Solomon, I believe, can teach us even more…

Most Biblical scholars recognize King Solomon for his wisdom. He is known as the wisest man in the Bible. Appearing to Solomon in a dream, God tells Solomon to ask him for anything. Talk about opportunity knocking…

Here’s Solomon’s response as recorded in I Kings 3:9. “Therefore give to Your servant an understanding heart to judge Your people, that I may discern between good and evil. For who is able to judge this great people of Yours?”

Solomon has been given the chance to ask for anything and he asks for a understanding heart, or as some translations read, a “listening” heart. He doesn’t ask to be understood, he doesn’t ask for riches, and he doesn’t ask for a better mind so he can better figure things out. He knows. He humbly admits his limitations. He asks God for help listening and understanding.

Wisdom.

We need a few leaders with humility and a listening heart to guide their team forward. We need a few leaders willing to slow down, understand, and make the tough calls. We need wise leaders, don’t we.

Build your wisdom, my friend. Focus here. God, help me understand more. God, help me hear more. God, give me a listening heart. God, help me get out of my own way. God, help me.

What, my friend, are you asking for…

  1. And once you’ve built it, keep other fellow builders around you so you do not grow soft and forget the wisdom you have built. After Solomon had been blessed and grown his kingdom to a level never exceeded before or after his time, he acted foolishly. “However…” is how the Scripture reads after recording the greatness of Solomon. Solomon compromised his core, lost his humility and with it his wisdom and in doing so became a rman divided, and soon after so was his kingdom never again to become one again (that is, until we get to the rest of the story when a new Jewish king would come who would not).

As the saying goes, so goes the king, so goes the nation. If want your team to become one, YOU become one. Leaders go first.
