Anita Grace…

Funerals. Sadly, the older I get the more I attend.

Today, I attended one that was more like a celebration. People applauded. I mean really applauded. Kitty’s Mom, Anita, was one woman I wish I would have met. My loss…

Today, however, didn’t feel like it was about anybodys loss. Instead, as the musicians played a rendition of the song, When The Saints Come Marching In, you felt kinda like you were on Canal Street in New Orleans, not St. John’s Church in Dublin. Today, Kitty and family are hurting and healing. And, today, they shared a bit of their Mom & Grandmother with those of us that had the privilege to attend. A Mom that leaves a legacy any Mom would esteem. A Mom that has returned to her eternal Father. A Mom that was all about giving, even in her absence.

Today, amidst the tearful reminders, a family celebrated a life well lived. Funerals. This is one I will gladly remember. This one celebrating Anita’s love for music just the way I imagine she would have wanted. Funerals. Gladly, I will reflect on this one…

  1. Thank you, brother, for being there today and joining in the celebration. It meant so much to my kids and to me. Mom would have been tickled about every part of the service. I kept smiling inside thinking about how she would have loved the music, the sharing and yes, the part about purposeful practice. Full circle, full circle indeed. Thank God she’s now on the sunny side of the street.
