Passion. Purpose. Practice…

“Practice makes perfect,” is not true. The truth is, practicing anything to the point of being able to perfect it without thinking is what makes moments of perfected performance possible. Yeah, you can see why our parents shortened it..

I practiced golf like crazy growing up and yet my game, especially my swing, is miles from perfect. Here’s why. I practiced swinging a club that was too heavy and too long. I practiced dropping the club at the top of my swing. I practiced bad habits with such commitment they became engrained in my mind. In fact the neural network that represents my swing is so coated in myelin that the moment I pick up a club and address the ball it’s already spooled up. Want a better performance? Practice with a purpose. Practice with a truth teller beside you. Practice early and often with an open mind to new, improved disciplines. Keep working. Of course this whole effort assumes you began with passion. You do love mastering your chosen craft, don’t you?

Passion. Purpose. Practice. Good..

Passion, purpose, practice is a tidy little village with lots of activity and hustle yet all the while calm and peaceful. I believe, passion, purpose, practice leads to our dream. When you and I practice with a purpose and a passion from deep within our CORE, we get pretty fired up! Now practice has meaning, something I’ve been searching for all along. As we leave perfect practice for the village next door, we find ourselves calm and peaceful while at the same time focused and even a bit intense. We are ready to go to work and get better. We are ready to produce results we didn’t think possible. For the first time we are starting to understand that “done so” isn’t just bad English, it’s a recipe to move us in the direction of our dreams. Building sustainable results will take hard work in large doses. Hard opus we can sustain while we perspire, hard labor we will disdain, as we tire. Slow down and reflect. In fact, I believe, we were made for opus. We were made for good work, friend…

Passion. Purpose. Practice. Get it. Got it. Good. You see, friend, hard opus you can sustain while you perspire. Hard labor, you’ll disdain as you tire. Big, life changing, kinda diff. You choose. Your choices have consequences. As for me, I’m off to practice with a client of mine. Last night a friend asked me when I thought I might wind down my work and join him in retirement. My response was some ccd magic, at least to my mind. “Never.” I mean, c’mon man, this is not labor. This, is opus. God, help me keep working, keep working, keep working – not in vain, mind you. God, help me keep working the way you made me to work. God, help me…
